Le ravitaillement en vol, pierre angulaire des missions de renseignement

Un C135-FR du groupement de ravitaillement en vol 2/91 « Bretagne » a orbité plusieurs heures au-dessus du théâtre irako-syrien pour délivrer 18 tonnes de carburant au profit de quatre chasseurs américains qui ont ensuite viré sur l’aile pour se replacer en appui des forces alliées au sol combattant Daech.

Il y a 51 ans, le 10 mai 1966, un Mirage IVA de l’escadron de bombardement 1/91 « Gascogne » effectuait pour la première fois une traversée transatlantique. Un vol inédit de 7h40 constituant la première étape d’un périple de 20 000 kilomètres qui prit fin sur la piste de Hao, en Polynésie française.
